Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, became parents to boy and girl twins. Shortly after birth, the boy passed away.
Ronaldo took to Instagram to announce the tragic news.
“It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel,” Ronaldo wrote. “Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness,” he added.
Ronaldo went on to thank the medical staff at the clinic where Georgina gave birth for their “expert care and support.”
“Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you,” Ronaldo wrote to finish the statement.
Ronaldo and Georgina announced in October that they were expecting twins, then revealed their gender in December in a video featuring their other children.
Ronaldo has three kids from previous relationships, as well as a four-year-old daughter, Alana, with Georgina. All four children are living with Ronaldo and his long-term girlfriend in Manchester.
The eldest, Cristiano Jr, is 11 and playing for Manchester United’s youth teams. Mateo and Eva, both four, are also twins.
Ronaldo and his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, said they were expecting twins at the end of October 2021.
